I had received a phone call from Lacey, who at the time was stationed with her husband in Japan. With out being able to meet in person we were able to do so on Skype and take care of all the details. They would be leaving Japan and coming home to Exeter, Ca for a couple days in transition to there new deployment and stationing in Arizona. We planned a beautiful location and session for them. The session was deffinately worth the planning and how it all came together.

Civil War Revisited, Fresno Ca 2011 Kearney Park

I have always wanted to go and see the reenactment of various battles that the http://www.valleyhistory.org presents in Fresno at Kearney Park. Every year they do different battles that they will demonstrate the battle and speak about its details.

This was so cool to watch as well as the kids getting entertainment and a history lesson at the same time. To think what it must of been like for almost half a million Americans to die in 4 years, that was 2% of the population in the US at that time. Some facts I learned today ;-)

We watched both battles and in the middle of them we walked around to see what was going on. A lot of the reenactments continued back at the camps that were set up. We spent some time at the camps battle field ER. The moaning and screaming soldiers with red (implied blood)on them was real enough that my kids would not stop asking me if it was real. As the Doctors would act like they were digging out bullets and the soldiers would lay there in an agonizing moan it was all to real. Then as they would carry a soldier off the tables whom just died they would make room for next soldier. I couldn't help to feel the emotion too when a young women was throwing herself on one of the bodies where the dead were stacking up. She was crying for the loss of her brother and wouldn't leave his side. Was such a realistic scene and emotion The blast from the canons and the clash of the swords from the horsemen was great to watch.

Next year when they present the reenactment again I would really like to encourage you to take the family out and watch this reenactment. They say its the largest reenactment this side of the Mississippi, (That would be West) for all my East Coast friends ;-)

I left the pro gear at home and traveled light today. Using only the basic point and shoot. I hope you enjoy some of my pictures and how I saw the battle.

2011, Lemoore NAS 100th anniversary Air Show slideshow. Featuring The Blue Angels by Troy Wegner Photography

I had the opportunity to attend the 100th anniversary air show out at Lemoore Naval Air Station. I have missed it for a few years now and could not wait to see it again. With the Blue Angels doing there thing it was simply amazing. To think that some of there precision maneuvers are performed with a closing rate of 1ooo mph there is no room for a miss calculation!

The angels definitely did not let anyone down. From the roar of there planes to the perfectly timed maneuvers everyone was on there seats to see them and what they would do next. I put together a slide show of some of my days pictures for everyone to enjoy. The song will play 1 1/2 times so make sure you watch the ending!

To the Blue Angels, Thank you for all that you do and all the dedication given. We are very grateful for the service you have given to our country The United States of America!!

On a side note my wife and I could not believe that the parking and event was totally free. Man, nothing is free anymore this was a really fantastic day with the family. This led me to thinking and a conversation with a couple people. With all the car loads of people that came to the event, wouldn't it be great if we could give back to our local Military families. Would it be to much for a 5 dollar per carload entrance fee to be collected and have that money go to the following. Any family on the base that needs marital counseling, or emotional support etc could benefit from this money that was collected. I know our service families have access to certain support but how awesome would it be to give back to them for all that they endure to keep us free. I didn't think 5 dollars per car load would dig to deep into our pockets. The benefits would pour out into the neighboring communities as the family unit could and would gain strength. Just my thoughts and two cents on giving back a little that would return much more than we could ever imagine.

Visalia High School Senior Photographer and A Tulare Senior Have A Great Photography Session.

A couple weeks ago I had some fun shooting Leah in a grungy downtown Visalia area. She couldn't wait for us to shoot her senior photos and when asked what she wanted style wise it was grunge. I had the perfect location in mind and when we arrived it was just what she was wanting. I love the idea that we no longer need to be stuck in a studio doing the same old and boring photos from years past. Getting out and putting some style into the session is what makes our sessions so much fun and memorable. We love to mix a little studio with the outdoor sessions but the choice is always up to the client and what they are paying for. If you have or know any senior that has not yet taken there senior pictures, let them know to hurry and book us before all our sessions are gone. We are always in high demand and at times can be booked solid a couple months out.

Coffee table books/albums with the senior photo sessions has been such a great hit. Visalia, Fresno Wedding and Portrait Photographer Shows a Family Portrait at Sunset

I had a great time with this family session. The couple had not yet had professional portraits done and their son was now 5 months old. We took advantage of the beautiful scenery to capture both a family session and a baby session and as you can see they really enjoyed it.

The images below were used as wall art for there home. They chose canvas and the arrangement is a grouping we call clusters. Its a great way to display multiple images from your photo session in a collage that is built to fit together on your wall. We offer many different medias to build your cluster, as well as many different arrangements (cluster) styles. In this cluster the biggest image is a 16x24 then an 17x11 and 2 8x12’s. Picking the Right Photographer and Printing Service, Destination Weddings

Ok so you have spent a lot of time researching photographers, meeting photographers and back to researching photographers. You finally found a photographer you like and then you make the decision to book them. They offer a DVD of all images and that is just what you want, or is it. Yes its great to have the images so you can post on the internet and FB but if you want them only to do your own printing because its cheaper here is something to consider.

As a professional photographer I have specially calibrated my computer and monitors to match my labs printers. What I see on my monitor assures how the prints will look when I get them back from the lab. As you can see in the image below the difference from one photo kiosk to another can really make your images look bad! Not only are the skin tones off, but look at the back ground wallpaper. Something to also consider is that most photographers have a lab of choice they work with and because of that relationship they have gained a trust in the products and print quality.

I do offer the DVD or CD of images but highly recommend that any prints should be purchased through our studio for the highest quality available. The choice is always up to the client and how they feel about getting the best quality for the money or the most photos for the money.

I can’t speak for other photographers but there certainly is a reason why quality cost more. I thought this post would be of interest to some, so please enjoy

First off congratulations to Stacy and PJ on their incredible wedding. We had beautiful cool weather and a location that rivaled any state park. Your pictures came out amazing.

I want to say thank you to all the vendors that helped to make this wedding such a great success.

First off and in no particular order is Fowler Floral, they had made a beautiful bouquet that was just awesome. All the flowers and corsages were not only fresh but full of colors! Designed by Talene Kasparian-Cleveland what a really beautiful job. Kudos to you at Fowler Floral. 2nd was the Cake, this cake was gorgeous and had beautiful details that went to the brides Asian roots. In the pictures you may see the coolness of the cake and how having it tie into who you are so subtly makes it even more sentimental. The cake was done by Randie at the Hula Girl Cakes. Many fabulous cakes have come from the Hula Girl, keep up the fantastic job Randie. The wedding dress came from Glamour Closet, and what Bride to be hasn't heard of them? This was absolutely the right dress for Stacy. She couldn’t have looked more beautiful in any other dress! The Dress was finessed in alterations by Mrs. Yoko Miyoshi. For the reception venue they chose The Grand 1401. The ball room on the lower floor was absolutely beautiful with all the red trim and decorations. Keeping the reception moving was My Dance DJ what a great job of running the up lighting and making sure the music was pumping. Lastly I want to personally thank the Bedrosian family (National Raisin Company)for opening up their home and allowing my crew and self to photograph the wedding party at there residence. Your home was lovely and your hospitality was very gracious to say the least, thank you! A big thank you to my assistant photographer David Donovan, always enjoy working with you buddy. We had an awesome time shooting with Bianca. Its all about having fun, keeping in real and letting the senior show their individual personality. Bianca came prepared, she had her outfits picked out and ready to go. We ended up using a few locations I had scouted out and they really worked out well for her. Though we did not have a sky full of dramatic clouds to shoot as a back drop (my favorite) we did end up catching a sunset.

...or why can't I print a full frame image on standard paper sizes

“As a photographer, we are faced with losing parts of our images when printing them out depending on the size of the print. Customers too wonder why they can not have the entire image on there print. The frustration this causes can not be avoided. I came across this great example and wanted to share it with you. I hope this information can and will allow you to see image size versus the crop a print may receive to your printed products.” Troy Wegner

Aspect Ratio is the ratio of the short size of an image to the long side of the image. We talk about it all the time without realizing it. When you get a 4x6 inch print you are describing the aspect ratio of that print: 4x6 (or 2x3, or 1x1.5). The length long side of the image is 1.5 times the length of the short size.

This happens to be the aspect ratio of most digital SLR cameras. These cameras evolved from 35mm film SLR cameras. 35mm film actually measures 24mm x 36mm (do the math, that translates to 2x3 or 1x1.5). Hence a 4x6 print can show the entire frame from a 35mm slide/negative or from most DSLR cameras. I say most because Olympus has SLR cameras with a 3:4 ratio, and most compact digital cameras are also in the 3:4 ratio. But that is not typical for DSLR cameras. I will talk about 3:4 ratio at the end of this discussion.

So, what happens when you want to make an enlargement from your DSLR image? If you make an 8x12 enlargement you will get the full frame. Everything you originally saw in the image. But, you might be saying, most frames are available in 5x7 or 8x10 sizes. What happens when I make a 5x7 or 8x10 print? What happens is that you either have to crop off parts of the original image, or you have to print with uneven borders (the borders on the long dimension will be wider than those on the short sides. The physical dimensions/aspect ratio of the image and the frame are not the same. Something has to go.

Here is an illustration:

The red line indicates the full 1x1.5 ratio of the DSLR original file. The other lines show the area of the image that will be included in various size prints.

The green lines shows the crop for an 8x10 or 16x20 (1x1.25 aspect ratio). Notice that a relatively large section of the original will be cropped out to make an 8x10 print.

The blue lines show the crop area for a 5x7 print (almost the full frame).

The yellow lines show the approximate crop area for an 8.5x11 or 11x14 print.

As mentioned above, there is an alternate way to print. You can have uneven borders, as illustrated below:

Here you are printing the full image frame (shown by the green lines) on 8x10 paper (red outline) at a size of about 6.67 inches by 10 inches, leaving a wide white border along the long dimensions of the print.

Another illustration:

The red frame shows the full image as captured by the camera. The green frame shows the part of the image that can be printed as an 8x10 inch print. Of course that green frame can be moved left or right in the image for the best composition.

Another way to think about this is to divide the long dimension of your original image by the short dimension and then divide the long/short dimension of your frame size and see if they match up. For example, take your original image that is 2:3 ratio. Divide 2 into 3 and you get 1.5. Now take your frame size. First we will try an 8x12 frame. 12 divided by 8 equals 1.5. The number is the same. The original image will scale to 8x12 with no cropping necessary. Second we will try an 8x10 frame. 10 divided by 8 equals 1.25. This does not match the original 1.5, so the image cannot be scaled to 8x10 without cropping.

One more illustration:

Note the black diagonal line from corner to corner of the image. That shows various crops within the image that will maintain the 1:1.5 aspect ratio. The green border and diagonal line indicate the available 8x10 (1:1.25) crops available from this image. Any rectangle who's corners fall on the diagonal green line can be a 8x10 crop from the image.

3:4 Ratio -- or the 4/3 system
Traditionally, televisions and personal computers have had screens with a 4:3 (width to height) aspect ratio. Computer screens have come in 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x960, etc. As compact digital cameras were being developed the 4:3 ratio was adopted by most manufacturers. This way digital camera images fit the computer screens. But they don't fit traditional photographic printing paper sizes.

Here is a 4:3 aspect ratio image with 8x10 (green) and 5x7 (blue) crop guides on it.

The 4:3 aspect ratio translates to 1:33333 and gives you un cropped print sizes like 10.5x14, 9.6x12.8, 9x12, 7.5x10, or 4.5x6. Not your typical print sizes. But these do work well for online, full-screen presentation.

When it comes to one of the most important purchases you can make for your wedding day it has got to be the dress. Because if you don’t look good in your dress or you feel you don’t look good, you will become more self conscious and worried through out the whole day. When really, you should be loving every moment your wedding day provides. You find yourself looking into every mirror or window reflection wondering if this or that is sticking out or worst yet falling out, yikes. All your worries and uncomfortable pokes will show on your face and body language as the wedding photographer (me) has been taking pictures non stop. My job is to capture your whole day, and to show you looking the most gorgeous and beautiful you have ever looked in your life!

The incredibly gorgeous self confidence that a Bride has and shows when she is in her wedding dress makes for beautiful pictures. However, if you are uncomfortable wearing the dress and you bought it because the dress was on sale and made the budget well “your bad”. So consideration to style and comfort are a must. As a photographer I have seen what a cheap dress has done to a Brides self confidence.

Just as picking out the right dress is vitally important so is picking the right photographer. All I can say is shopping a photographer solely on price to fit in the budget you may be getting exactly what you are paying for, a cheap photographer. When all the food has been eaten, the cake is gone, the flowers have withered away, the tuxes have been returned, the one thing that will remain and remain for your lifetime are your pictures. Please pick your photographer with the same discretion you have for your wedding dress. Sometimes you find a dress that is just a little bit more money than you would like to pay but it is “the perfect one”, so you end up buying it and spending a bit more. You are now thinking where can I cut back on the other wedding items to get the money back into the budget for everything else. Your Photography really should be the last item to cut from. In fact a lot of Brides will cut from everything else so they can add money to get the best Photographer. Your pictures will last forever…………

I wanted to share a couple of my favorite images from the Wedding of Matt and Katie. They held both the wedding and the reception at the Grand 1401 in Fresno. We were to shoot Bridal party pictures at Woodward Park but the 40 degree weather turned out to be a bit to cold for everyone. We really made the best of it, shooting the entire day in doors. Also, a thank you to my second shooter David Donovan.

Wedding photography prices are all over the map. Some wedding photographers charge just a few hundred dollars to show up and shoot, some charge a few thousand dollars and some charge a small fortune to come and essentially do the same thing, right? After all, they are “just taking pictures” and with the technology that is available today, anyone can do it, right?

WRONG!

You’ve been planning your wedding in your mind since you were a little girl. You finally met the man of your dreams and he proposed. Now you have to actually plan your wedding; setting budgets, finding a venue, making decisions on who to invite, what kind of flowers to have, finding the perfect dress, trying out different caterers, dealing with your future in-laws, the list goes on and on...

And then there’s the wedding photography; the one thing you have left to help you remember your emotions, events and details after the food has been devoured, the band has played, the flowers have withered and the guests have gone home. You soon come to find out that wedding photography prices vary widely. Some wedding photographers charge just a few hundred dollars to show up and shoot, some charge a few thousand dollars and some charge a small fortune. How to choose?!

Truth is, it’s hard to compare wedding photography prices because the numbers don’t always tell the whole story, so it’s important to compare apples to apples.

Here’s a real life scenario:

Let’s say you find 2 photographers who both have a package that cost $4,000.

For $4,000, Photographer A will shoot for 8 hours on the day of your wedding, include an engagement photo session, a framed print, a second shooter and a 20 page 11x14 album.

For the same $4,000 Photographer B will show up and shoot for 6 hours.

Which is the better deal? Well that all depends on the quality of the work and the experience the photographer delivers. What if Photographer A is brand new to the business and has only shot a handful of weddings? What if the album is made by some cheap manufacturer and has a funny smell to the faux leather? What if they take forever to return calls and emails and give you poor customer service? What if their work is average at best? How do you feel about spending that $4,000?

Now let’s say Photographer B does an amazing job for his $4,000. He or she has tons of experience, the images are incredible, you had a blast being photographed and the customer service is top notch. Sure, you’re might have to spend a few thousand more dollars to get a nice album, but at least you will be in love with your images and you’ll enjoy them for years to come. I suggest you are getting better value for your money in this scenario.

I understand that there’s a lot of money being spent in the month leading up to the wedding and there is a lot to consider regarding wedding photography prices, in addition to all of the other vendors you are hiring for your wedding. I often advise my potential clients who are on a tighter budget to invest in the best wedding photography they can afford; get the best possible pictures first and foremost. You can always come back and order prints, albums & other products well after the wedding. (Traditionally paper is given as the first anniversary gift...may I suggest photo paper bound in a leather album?)

Disclaimer: I am certainly not suggesting that just because one wedding photographer has higher prices that they are automatically better. It’s still up to you to evaluate the skills and value provided by the photographers you are considering hiring.

Here is a simple checklist for you to use when trying to determine whether wedding photography prices are a good value or not:

Think about:

The quality of the images
The quality of their albums
The personality of the photographer, their presentation, their reputation and the service they deliver.

Also make sure to:

Ask around. Getting referrals from trusted friends & colleagues is a great place to start.
Do your homework. Browse through several photographers to find those you like who also fit your budget.
Meet them in person. You are stuck with your wedding photographer not only on your wedding day, but they’re usually the only vendor you have to deal with after your wedding is over. It’s important to hire someone you like and feel comfortable with.

Lastly, I suggest hiring a photographer who is passionate about their job. One who is dedicated to taking the best possible pictures on your day and delivering a remarkable experience to their clients. One who takes pride in the work they do and it makes in obvious for you to see. Invest in a professional who will take care of your memories.

Here are a few tips to make sure your wedding pictures are exactly what you dreamed they would be.

Before hiring a wedding photographer I always recommend that brides and grooms take a look around the web and understand the difference in the main styles of wedding photography. Become an educated consumer by going to places like the knot. If you do not know what you want, then how can any wedding photographer or vendor give it to you? If you do not know, then how can they meet your needs completely. this is a recipe for a wedding disaster. The question is do you know what you want? In general you could break wedding photography into a few popular styles like traditional, portrait or photojournalism.

After looking around the web for a few hours and coming up with some example for me to look at, most brides will say that they want their wedding images to be taken in the photojournalism style. Most brides do not want old fashioned portraits taken and they do not want cliché pictures either. However, there is another style of wedding photography that has become very popular in recent years, posed photojournalism. Huh? What is that and do those words even go together, yes. However, its also what most brides want and they do not even know it.

Posed photojournalism will make life easier for the bride and groom while the images simply just look better. This style gives you the wedding pictures you have dreamed of since you were a little girl. Most brides and grooms are not professional models and have no experience posing in front of the camera. How can you be expected to know how to pose for your wedding pictures? Its simple you cant. By getting together with a photographer who is playful and fun that will do anything to get you great wedding pictures, you will be on the right path to great images. Your wedding photographer should be there to help you and make sure that your pictures turn out perfect. Your job is to look beautiful, be happy, and get married. Our job as the photographer is to document your wedding day and make sure that you look your best.

You do not need to worry about the little things like is your hand in the right position, do you have a hair out of place or is your gown beautifully spread out with your veil showing? I am watching carefully before the picture is taken and fixing or positioning anything that will improve your wedding pictures. Remember, by practicing posed photojournalism with your wedding photographer on your engagement shoot, you can relax on your wedding day and have more confidence that your images will look real and flow naturally.

Baby Announcement

Had the wonderful time of taking baby Penelope’s first pictures. Born in October she was only two and a half weeks old. We spent the evening in the studio with the heater cranked up cooking us all out, but Penelope was comfortable. She never fell asleep and was awake for her first session. I know her parents were really hoping she would stay awake for the pictures as well. As a Photographer It doesn't matter to me if the baby is awake or asleep but I do prefer to let them fall asleep. With a new born the iris is not yet set and eyes can look solid black and or the baby just gets upset. Its also when they are asleep we can get those really precious poses and once they are positioned that is how they will stay. Either way how can you not get a great photo of a new born right?! Penelope was such a great baby never once did she cry or seem to get uncomfortable. Thanks for the great session Penelope!

Liberty Station Point Loma Wedding in San Diego, Visalia Fresno Wedding Photographer Troy Wegner

I had a great opportunity to shoot in San Diego at Liberty Station in the Point Loma area with David Donovan. Liberty Station is an old Military Barracks that have now been converted to many shops and restaurants as well as a few hotels that have been built amongst everything. The location is just West of the San Diego International Airport. Having beautiful water ways and parks that divide you from the airport area.

Mikki and George tied the knot at the Marriot Hotel. The ceremony was outside on the beautiful grass lawn with the water behind them. The hotels amenities worked out great as the wedding parties booked rooms and we had a short distance to go for all the getting ready shots with each of the wedding parties. Having everyone get ready in the rooms allowed enough time to get some great photos under the bridges outside.

Mikki and George chose to do a “First Look” under the bridges. I do highly recommend for Brides to consider a first look as it allows for some great photos and it really is a very special moment that can be captured like no other. Once the first look and that special time was captured we moved onto doing the wedding party shots. Again, highly recommended because now most of the wedding party is photographed and all that is left would be the ceremony and family shots. I have found that maintaining a schedule like this really helps to maintain a smooth rhythm for the wedding day and all the pictures are not piled up after the ceremony when everyone really just wants to get to the reception.

Mikki and George had hired a Wedding Coordinator that was awesome. I would have to say this was the best coordinator I have worked with thus far. He did a fabulous job keeping everything on time, giving any heads up needed. Not only did he keep things running smoothly but if he noticed a detail that was crooked or out of place he would take it upon himself to either fix it or make mention of it. Helping us to keep details in the photos perfect. Most of all, he did not tell us how to photograph. Trusting and leaving the entire creative process to be the photographers job, nice! That is why we are there!! I would highly recommend to anyone considering a coordinator to find a good one within your budget.

As some weddings can be covered by one photographer having two really takes any added stress off the main photographer and adds additional coverage. I was asked to second shoot for this venue by Dave. The venue turned out to be really fantastic and the weather was just gorgeous. I just want to say thanks to Dave and the Wedding party for the opportunity to share in the very special day and for giving me another great wedding and venue to shoot. The Ritchie Barn really has all you need for making a beautiful wedding come alive. Located in Visalia, Ca the barn is known for its many parties and gatherings. I found myself amazed at all the nooks and crannies for spectacular photography. From quaint little walking trails to a little water creek that meanders through the trees. I would have to say that when timing the seasons right for a wedding the Ritchie Barn is a must.

Sean and Lenka choose the Ritchie Barn as there reception destination but the property offers so much more. The property even has a completely furnished and beautiful house that can be used. Even though the day was 103 degrees and very humid I somehow imagined the lush vegetation and greenery was like being back in Maui for a moment. Congratulations to Sean and Lenka on the start of a wonderful adventure together.

Well this isn’t exactly a wedding but the inquiry I had made me start and think of Yosemite. I had an inquiry to shoot a wedding in Yosemite during October. I cant think of a more beautiful location then Yosemite in the fall. The colors and the cool air mixed with the excitement of a wedding, what more could one ask for. Apparently a couple eloping and heading to Yosemite needed a photographer to cover there special day. Which brings me to my photos in this blog post.

I had not yet posted any of my exciting Yosemite camping pictures from this past spring. When I arrived to the Valley floor I was in shorts and a tank top and the weather was beautiful. So, that is the typical spring day you say well ok I agree. However, by the next day at noon a tremendous storm had literally blew in with a roar through the valley. Much like a train or a jet plane screaming by just over the tree tops. As branches were falling from the trees all I could do was wait for one to fall through the roof of my 5th wheel trailer. Luckily I did get spared any damages but huge tree limbs were tossed on the ground everywhere.

Late that afternoon it was in the 30 degree range and getting colder. My friends that had decided to camp in tents well lets just say they were like little pop sickles out there. We all woke up to snow and more snow. It snowed all morning up to about noon. Great fun having spring and winter all on the same trip.

The weather gave me some great photo opportunities that I would like to share. As always any photo on display here on my blog is copyright protected. They can be purchased if you are interested, please just contact me.

Kayla ended up with to many awesome images. It was some tough decisions on her and her Mom. But after all was said and done I think these pictures will represent Kayla well for the rest of her life. The last set of real honest to goodness pictures before leaving for college and starting her own life. I had a blast shooting these.

When I arrived for the shoot it looked as though God himself was going to open the heavens and let all the water fall. Though it was ominous looking I had about 5 mins to scout the area and set up in case the rains started. I had never been here before and had no idea what to expect. Ooh, and did I mention the wind was crazy and blowing everything over. We started shooting and half way through the rain did in fact start. So we had to grab the gear and run for the barn and take a time out and wait it out for about 20 mins. We went back outside to do the railroad track shots my helper Stacy (Kayla’s Mom) turned her back for only a moment and the wind blew over the lights she was supposed to be holding. Well I give her credit, she caught the lights about 5 inches from the ground. Hey what a save, thank goodness. Pete Rose would of been proud of that diving catch ;-) ooh yeah not to many remember him if you do than well your getting old too. When we shot the images in the weeds the sun had just come out of the clouds low on the horizon to the west getting ready for a sunset. The golden light that hit Kayla was just fantastic. As soon as the light hit her I knew I was capturing California gold.

We had almost cancelled the shoot due to the weather that day. 3 times it was on and off again. I am glad I took the chance on the weather holding out. I really think all that mother nature had in that day helped create some really stunning photos for Kayla to look back on 25 years from now.

This was a great session and I really think the pictures show it. Kayla as with most teens took a few minutes to warm up to the camera, but after that it was all good. How could it not be, a teenager and a camera. I was really thank full for the weather to hold out. It was threatening serious rain and we only had to grab the lights and gear and run to the barn for shelter for 20 mins while the rain came down. We had a lot of wind that made for the glamour model and hair blowing in the fan effect. I really think Kayla started to feel and see all the elements coming together for a fabulous shoot. Thanks for the fun shoot to Kayla and her mom Stacy and the awesome location they decided on.

La Jolla Beach wedding

Two Marines choose a beautiful point on the San Diego coastline to be married. Wind and Sea in La Jolla is famous for the surfing, clean beach and the babes. This is one of the best beaches in all of San Diego and I was stoked to have had the chance to shoot this couple there. With an outdoor venue as this, you never know what you will shoot or see. The weather was not exactly cooperating. Moving from a hard drizzle to what seemed to be sprinkles everyone left the beach wet and cold. Just the day prior and the day after the wedding it was hot and sunny, and so goes the unpredictable coastal weather.
Also, when was the last time you had seen a bag pipe player playing on a beach and marching to the beat of a Marine. I have to say the Marine uniform is really cool with the sword on the hip.

Jared was full of great ideas and inspiration. I really believe his confidence was captured in the images we shot. We both had a great rhythm together and my ideas were his. Couldn't ask for better conditions the sky was full of clouds making for a great back drop as well as one giant soft box. Everything about this shoot was perfect and had a hoot of a time. Jared I'm so glad you chose to come down from Santa Rosa to have me shoot your Senior pics. Tell your friends and let them know about me. Wow what a beautiful spot. While out scouting locations I came across this spot in the middle of the day. I had noticed that as the sun would set it should go directly behind the trees. I made a note to time this spot for a sunset shoot trusting my intuition for lighting.
I took Cynthia, Quintin, Justin and Tayler to the spot and had a blast. My intuition was right on the money and I couldn't ask for anything more. Had some great light and two well behaved kids. Thank you for such a great and easy shoot you guys. It was about 15 minutes and I was like ok we are done. They were like, ahh you got them already. Yep, we can keep shooting if you like but we deffinately have some great family shots here. One location a couple poses, wow I wish everyshoot was so easy,

Photoshop World

Well just a quick update for everyone. Photoshop World in Vegas was a blast and a jam packed 4 days. I'm glad I stayed another day just to recoup. So much intake I think everyone who attended was on brain overload.
The Mandalay Casino/Resort is where the show and convention were held. Unknown until we got there the Mandalay was also holding another convention. This was the worlds biggest tattoo convention. What a fun a crazy bunch of folks that showed up for that convention. Since I love to people watch as most of you do too, it was never a dull moment around there.
Really how can you go to Vegas and not have a blast of a time!!

I just wanted to share some of my favorite images from the wedding. I know Dossie is very anxious to see some so here you are, and I hope you enjoy.
Congratulations to Dossie and Garry Rogers on their Wedding. Turned out to be a great wedding. Would of been nice to of had air conditioning in the church. With the outside temps reaching 100+ I couldnt tell if people were crying or sweating :-) All in all I was happy to of had the opportunity to shoot the wedding.
I would like to thank Dan Parkinson on his 2nd shooter skills and the fun we had together.

The Rogers and Henson Engagement

Well what can I say, other than I had a fun time shooting this couple. We traveled about an hour from town to the foothills of Springville. We got lucky and the weather was not to hot. Unfortunately the worst time of the day to shoot in is when we could get together. Devil light as it is referred to, the 12 noon style of light. If they werent squinting from the brightness of the sun I had crazy shadows to contend with. They gave me a good run for the money I tell ya, testing my abilities.
We made the most of it and would jump into any shadow we could find, However, most of the shoot was in fact out in the harsh light. I am looking forward to shooting their wedding and not running from the sun. Im looking forward Dossie to the 49 Merc you will be showing up in.

When it comes to Ohio, I have found that they are not short on beautiful places and churches. I mean really how can you screw up ( well, I mean, ah, yes you can).

Anyways, All the images here were shot by me. I could not resist taking such a gorgeous shot or two. The Churches are hand picked by David and he does use them often for Weddings. I have to admit, that using the same venue over and over would make it easy to nail the money shots as he has 30 years in the area I believe. All his experience is being shared with each group and I am looking forward to making beautiful images for my clients as well.

A day in Ohio

Wow has it really been a week already?! Time sure flies once you get home and back at the old grind stone. The Trip to Northern Kentucky and Ohio turned out to be an exciting trip. Many new friends were made and stories told. I wanted to share a couple of images that I took while in Ohio on Friday July 31st. The first few images are of the Cincinnati Museum at Union Terminal. It is of my understanding that at the height of WWII that 40 thousand soldiers a day came through here. It was the busiest terminal in the states I was told. Now a great museum with a great history.

I also thought the old brick street was interesting since you just don't see them anymore. By the looks of the neighbor hood I don't think many live there either. I can see traces of asphalt, makes you think that they just asphalted over the bricks way back when.

The image above of the park like setting was taken at the Historic Spring Grove Cemetery. This is a Cemetery like no other. Second in size only to Arlington National Cemetery. The size was really to much to see even in one day. With monuments of old and Civil War sections you could get lost in here for a week. Being I'm from California I was surprised to here that at this Cemetery they have a camping area for kids clubs. They even hold Weddings and parties, yes I said weddings at a Cemetery. This has got to be one of the most beautiful park like settings I have ever seen. From the rolling hills and lush greenery to all the monument like the one I included a picture of. if you are ever in the Cincinnati Ohio area this is worth the half day excursion. Just be sure to stop at the front and get your map, otherwise you may never make it out alive....

Having Some Fun with DAZ

Hey everyone, here is a picture of the class. We all went back to david Zisers home for a tour, dinner and some great conversation. We all had a great time and loved the hospitality of the Zisers.

This class brings a great variety of people and learning experiences. 2 firemen, ex-ray tech, army photographer, military Alison transmission man, mobile diesel mechanic and more. But, we all have one thing in common. That is the love of photography. For some the wanting to take it either to the professional level and for others its expanding on our professional skills that we are already using. Either way we are all here for the same one reason.

To Learn and be awesome at what we do....

David Ziser Workshop

So far the workshop has been fun. Day one is full of lecture, talking and sharing. Tomorrow and Wednesday will be shooting days and I am looking forward to that. 22 people in the class and all have great ambition to learn more as well. This is really going to be a great launch for future endeavors. Hope everyone out there is doing well and I am looking forward to shooting you with some new lighting techniques.

Missing Maui

Well I had a chance to go to Maui and do more scuba diving next week but duty calls. Seems I am already committed to a trip to Ohio where I'm sure it will be nice and humid and and. Honestly though I have been looking forward to the Ohio trip. I am taking a Master Wedding class for a full week. This class is tought by one of the top 10 Wedding Photographer's in America. Looking forward to learning even more.
For the Professional, photography is more than just taking pictures. Anyone can press a button and take a picture, but not everyone can make art . Taking the time to get the photo right and making you happy for choosing me to capture your event.
As this blog continues I am sure you will want to pop in from time to time to see whats happening or who's photos I have taken recently. I will post as I go.
